An Accidental Collaboration

This was an exhibition bringing together the work of two artists, painter Sam Pooley-Stride and photographer Richard Hammerton, working in different media and starting from different points.

These two projects began entirely separately and without knowledge or intentional common purpose, but over time a sense of shared points of reference, seen from different perspectives, began to emerge, and these inspired the idea of a collaborative exhibition. 

Some of these paired works began with a painting which inspired a photograph that referenced it, and some started with a photograph that inspired a painting as a creative response. The balance of intention and chance that inspired the works is also a fitting description of the exhibition itself.
