Artist Statement

I came to painting late, having worked through a range of media to discover a form of communication that truly challenges me. Often starting with a common theme, emotion or concept that is then developed, my work is both an emotional response to my surroundings and an escape into the use of raw materials and painting itself.

I work in an intuitive way, experimenting with medium to create texture and depth. Working on paper, wood panels and canvas, my paintings veer from high-intensity colour to minimalist monochromes.

About the Artist

Sam spent the first 12 years of her working career in London's advertising industry, guiding young creatives to find work in top agencies. She co-founded Cream, an exhibition of the finest creative advertising graduates, who would go on to become some of the most successful Creative Directors around today.

Sam also co-founded the Saatchi & Saatchi book club, encouraging art directors and copywriters to find their work partners, and lectured at many creative advertising courses around the UK. Later, she ran the advertising trade charity NABS’ careers department and helped many creative individuals find their dream jobs.

She moved to Shrewsbury returning to her own creative needs, studying Fine Art at Birmingham School of Art. She graduated in 2013, exhibiting her Boob Wallpaper project.

Whilst studying, she launched Shrewsbury’s Compost Kids Art School, which she ran for six years.

Since then, Sam has been a prolific creator and connector, working on projects with many other creative folk in and around Shropshire. She also heads up marketing and events at Brompton Cross London.

She has four children and lives with her husband. Whenever she has a free moment, you will find her painting at Swan Hill Studios in Shrewsbury.
